Jordan Bratby - Apprentice

After completing an NVQ level 2 in Business and Administration at Doncaster Council, whilst undertaking a work placement, Jordan found himself looking for a new opportunity that was both stimulating and rewarding. Like many young people, Jordan applied for numerous jobs but unfortunately found it difficult to obtain work due to the present economic climate we find ourselves in.

Over the last twelve months Jordan attended many interviews but felt that due to his physical disability certain employers were not giving him an equal opportunity to gain employment.

In January 2012 Jordan learnt about Refurnish through one of his relatives, who had heard about the work we do within the Doncaster district. He decided to give us a call. He was invited in to have a look around the premises and learn a little more about what Refurnish are all about. Jordan made an impressive first impression and, due to the fact that at the time Refurnish had an apprenticeship placement position available, he was asked to put forward his CV. Jordan’s CV met the required criteria and was subsequently asked to attend an interview.

After a successful interview Jordan was offered an Apprentice Administrative post whereby he would be able to further develop his existing skills with valuable practical experience and also be sponsored to further his academic credentials by undertaking a NVQ Level 3 in Business and Administration.

Jordan accepted the post and commenced work within our organisation in January 2012.Jordan undertook his employment induction and was soon in place with Refurnish providing all the required adaptations to enable him to function to the best of his abilities taking on board his physical disabilities. Within no time at all Jordan felt one of the team and is now enjoying his day to day duties within the warm, friendly and supportive working environment which Refurnish provide.

Jordan’s job role is diverse, interesting and sometimes challenging but he has adapted well to his new work environment and is excelling in all that he does. The main duties of his role consist of; dealing with customer enquiries, general administration, data inputting and retail analysis.

In addition to the NVQ level 3 in Business Administration that Jordan is undertaking, he has taken upon himself to further his education (at Doncaster College) having recently completed the Level 1 in Basic Book Keeping (progressing on to Level 2)

In Jordan’s own words;

“Joining Refurnish has given me the opportunity to boost my confidence and provided me with a chance to develop work and life skills.I have only been here a short while but I am looking forward to contributing my skills within a successful team, knowing that I will be looked upon as a valued team member and at the same time making new friends”.
